The Michelin Guide's review
Selimiye Camii, the imperial mosque built by Selim II (1524-1574), is considered to be the jewel of Ottoman religious art. Its architect Sinan has achieved a true masterpiece here. Admire the harmonious silhouette, super-imposed arches, half-domes and domes offset by the fluted minarets. However, the interior best expresses Sinan's genius, with its light, delicate arches, enhanced by Iznik ceramics, carefully orchestrating the flow of natural light to create a stunningly beautiful ensemble, now a Unesco site. Art museum in a former medersa.
