Ebrach Abbey
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
The old monastery was the first Cistercian establishment to be built on the right bank of the Rhine, in 1127. The imposing stone structure of Ebrach Abbey underwent radical changes in the Baroque style during the 17C and 18C. The layout of the church with its flat-ended chancel is directly inspired by the abbey at Cîteaux. The site is occupied by a prison nowadays.
