The Michelin Guide's review
This Benedictine abbey (11C) was founded on the site of a Celtic church. The Romanesque nave of the abbey church, with its massive pillars and round-headed arches, is one of the finest in Scotland. The east end (rebuilt in the early 19C) serves as the parish church. A memorial brass marks the tomb of Robert the Bruce. Little has survived of the great monastic ensemble. The Abbot House is currently home to the heritage centre.
