The Michelin Guide's review
The museum has sections illustrating local geology, archaeology and history. In the mill, you will see palaeo-Christian stones and an exhibition on country life and the origins of the museum, which in 1836 was an astronomical observatory. The telescope was used to observe Halley's Comet in July 1836. The Camera Obscura, on the top floor of the windmill, offers a fine view over Dumfries.
