The Michelin Guide's review
Attacks by land were the hardest to withstand, hence the thickness of the walls here. To bolster the defences, a fore-wall and defensive moat were built. The most interesting views of the walled town can be enjoyed from here, with the chequered streets of the Baroque quarter in the foreground. The centrepiece is the enormous Minceta tower (14C-15C) with its battlements and machicolations. Its terrace is the highest point on the ramparts, affording a unique panoramic view of the town.
