The Michelin Guide's review
This fortress, built in 1462, was enlarged in the following century to resist the Turks, who had invaded neighbouring Herzegovina. It is home to an exhibition devoted to the fort and another to medieval religious sculpture. Beyond the second bridge, the road skirts old lazarets, a series of long rooms where travellers were made to stay during a quarantine period that was enforced through fear of epidemics. Now restored, they are the site of a cultural centre and the Lindo folk ensemble.
