The Michelin Guide's review
This summer palace was built between 1720 and 1724 by Matthäus Daniel Pöppelmann, the prince-electors' architect. The late Baroque predilection for Chinese art can be seen in the shape of the roofs. Few of the rooms in the palace museum are open to visitors, but two buildings are given over to the Museum of Decorative Arts and temporary exhibitions. The grounds were landscaped in 1778. The banks of the Elbe are conducive to lovely walks.
