The Michelin Guide's review
At the heart of a district of medieval streets and wynds stands St Bride's Church with its octagonal bell-tower. The choir-stand is all that remains of the 14C building. There are some interesting medieval tombs containing the remains of the Earls of Douglas. The churchyard affords good views of the river and parkland of the ancestral seat of the Douglas family. The mansion, of which only one wing was built, was destroyed by subsidence in 1937.
