The Michelin Guide's review
This graceful monument is unique of its kind. Surrounded by a portico, the cella is built on a platform in the centre of a semicircular courtyard which originally was completely encircled by walls. A portico runs along the circular section of the wall, to allow for a gallery which was used for processions. Because this temple was built around AD 222-235 on a former site of worship dedicated to Tanit, some observers have read into its architecture a connection with the famous crescent moon of the Punic goddess.
