The Michelin Guide's review
The Motte, or Moat, overlooking Donaghadee served as a defensive position in the Bronze Age and a lookout post in Norman times. In the early 19C, a now-ruined structure was built there to house the explosives used in the construction of the port. The area around it has been turned into a public garden and from the top, in clear weather, there is a fine view as far as Scotland and the Isle of Man.
