Terrace Hill
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
Dubbed "Palace of the Prairie" upon its completion in 1869, 21-room Terrace Hill is considered one of the best-preserved examples of the Second Empire style in the US. Its original owner, Iowa millionaire Benjamin F. Allen, commissioned Chicago architect W.W. Boyington to design his dream house. Restored to its 1880s appearance, the elegant red-brick manse now serves as the governor's residence.
