A primeval world of grand design and dimension, the park's geography varies from spruce forest and grassy tundra to austere granite pinnacles crowned with snow and ice. On the glaciers, eroded glacial cirques, chiselled ridges and steep valleys have created a magical world that often appears to float above the clouds. Boasting an extraordinary array of wildlife, the park was classified as a nature reserve in 1917.
