Horseshoe Bend National Military Park preserves the battle site where the decimated Creek Indians, after fighting Gen. Andrew Jackson's soldiers, signed the Treaty of Fort Jackson on August 9, 1814, ceding some 20 million acres of land to the US-land that in 1819 became the state of Alabama.
