The Michelin Guide's review
A stately white plantation home, Houmas House combines a modest four-room house built in 1790 with a Greek Revival mansion built in 1840 for John Smith Preston. Massive columns mark the wide double gallery encircling the house, and unusually, hexagonal garçonnières lie to either side. This luxurious building boasts a rich collection of old cupboards and some period paintings. Impressive gardens which are particularly well tended complete the visit.
