The fabulous and remote Mjóifjörður ("Narrow Fjord") has a real "end of the earth" feel about it. Once a major whaling station, today it is sparsely populated, which is what lends it its charm. The site is peppered with waterfalls, and its majesty stems from the height of the mountains, the narrowness of the fjord and the metallic reflections on the water. Sit on a jetty and take in the scene: the ballet of the birds swooping overhead, an abandoned boat, a seal's head poking out of the water...
