The Michelin Guide's review
The blockhouses and craters left in the ground of the Pointe du Hoc, between Omaha and Utah Beaches, bear witness to the violence of the battle of June 1944. Heavily defended by the Germans, this headland was an ideal post from which to survey the whole coast when it was attacked on D-Day during the landing of the American troops. The top of this emblematic cliff commands sweeping views out to sea as far as the Cotentin peninsula.
