The Michelin Guide's review
Best suited for visitors with boats, this national recreation area extends for roughly 130mi along the shores of Lake Roosevelt and takes in 28 campgrounds, 22 boat ramps and dozens of beaches. Few roads within convenient reach of Coulee Dam approach the lake, but one of the recreation area's most popular campgrounds-Spring Canyon-lies just 7mi from town and offers a large beach, lawns and shaded picnic areas. Near the campground, you'll find the start of the self-guiding Bunchgrass Prairie Nature Trail (.75mi), which explores a section of the shrub-steppe ecosystem that once covered most of eastern Washington.
