The Michelin Guide's review
The Poor Clares of Santa Clara-a-Velha settled in the new convent, still occupied by nuns, in the second half of the 17C. The Baroque church houses the 17C silver tomb of St Elizabeth of Portugal and a wooden statue of her, by Teixeira Lopes. In the lower choir is the early tomb of the queen, built in painted Ançã stone during her lifetime in the 14C. You will notice the recumbent statue, dressed as a nun of the Order of St Clare and with open eyes.
