Château de Clisson
Michelin Guide
Civil and military monument
The Michelin Guide's review
Dominating the Sèvre Nantaise from its promontory, Olivier de Clisson's castle once protected the Duchy of Brittany against Anjou and Poitou. The early castle, probably dating back to the 11C and 12C, has more recent features, such as the 14C polygonal keep, the second 15C curtain wall and the three 16C bastions. It is between May and July that the castle really comes alive, with shows and historical reconstructions.
