The Michelin Guide's review
Overlooking Tiawah Valley, this limestone memorial, with nine galleries and a children's museum, tells the compelling story of Will Rogers' homespun life. The "Cowboy Philosopher" was a trick roper, movie star, radio commentator and newspaper columnist. Rogers (1879-1935) originally bought the 20-acre spread to build his retirement home prior to his death in an air crash. The museum that frames the family tomb has statues, paintings, celebrity photos, playbills, saddles, dioramas, video kiosks and six theaters showing silent and "talkie" films in which Rogers starred. Will Rogers Birthplace, a log-walled, two-story house at Dog Iron Ranch on Lake Oologah, has an airstrip, an oak barn and friendly farm animals for petting.
