The monastery of Santa Maria in Valle was built on the site of a Lombard palace. The surprising 8C tempietto, a former Palatine chapel, has been engulfed in the monastery complex. A genuine jewel and unique example of Lombard decorative art, it is made up of a square chamber with a vault of intersecting ribs and adorned with some remarkable frescoes and stucco work. The wooden choir dates from the 15C.
