The Michelin Guide's review
No need to head off on an expedition if you want to explore the petroglyphs of Cholpon-Ata. Scattered out in the open air, they can be found around the airport and in the surrounding fields. More than a thousand drawings and engravings have been recorded, the oldest dating back to the Bronze Age and the most recent to the Middle Ages. Most of them depict animals native to the region and hunting scenes. Take a walk around them early in the morning or in the evening, when the low-angled light helps you make them out.
