The Michelin Guide's review
Chelly Canyon reveals itself gradually to visitors. On arrival, the first thing you notice is the canyon's twisting shape and impressive red sandstone cliffs sculpted by the water. Then you become aware of the deep green vegetation on the canyon floor. And as you head down for a closer look at the crops and poplar trees growing in the canyon, you notice the Anasazi ruins which stand alongside modern Navajo farms. This sacred site is one of the few still inhabited and farmed by Native Americans.
