The Michelin Guide's review
Wat Phra Kaeo owes it renown to the discovery of the famous Emerald Buddha here in 1434. According to legend, the most venerated statue in Thailand was hidden in the chedi of the temple. Following numerous tribulations, the famous Buddha was finally housed in the temple of the same name in Bangkok. The Ho Phra Kaeo, a recent and tastefully built wihan, successfully combines classic architecture and modern lines. The building houses a modern copy of the Emerald Buddha, by a Chinese artist.
