Leading northwest from Oconaluftee Visitor Center in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, this scenic route winds up the crest of the Great Smokies and provides numerous pullouts from which to enjoy breathtaking vistas. Stop for views from the crest of Newfound Gap, where the Appalachian Trail crosses the road.
