The Michelin Guide's review
The Imperial Summer Palace is the largest imperial palace in China, up to eight times larger than the Forbidden City. It is made up of lakes, hillocks, copses and pavilions, as well as twelve temples, some of which are replicas of emblematic monuments in Tibet or Turkestan. The highlight of the visit is the Imperial Palace itself, which houses the throne and magnificent furniture from the Qing period. The only disappointment is that some of the buildings are not shown off to their best advantage.
