The Michelin Guide's review
According to popular lore, Lyon has three rivers: the Rhône, the Saône and the Beaujolais. But although the region is well known as a wine-making area, it also offers a wonderfully rich variety of contrasting landscapes; to the north, especially at Les Écharmeaux, lie mountains, whose wildness is compounded by the dark woods of Douglas firs, and to the south are the bright villages of Pierres Dorées country (such as St-Jean-des-Vignes, Bagnols and Châtillon), which come to life with the first rays of sun.
