The Michelin Guide's review
Seat of the magistrates' court and the municipal library, the castle is part feudal and part Renaissance, the latter due to Jean de Laval, whose wife, Françoise de Foix, was for a time the mistress of François I. Only the keep remains of the feudal castle. Opposite is the palace: go up to the balcony for a view over the town's rooftops, have a peek inside Françoise de Foix's "golden" bedroom, then tour the gardens sloping down to the Chère, ideal for a picnic.
