The Michelin Guide's review
Overlooking the fortified city, Cartagena Cathedral's belfry is crowned with a dome dating from the 20C. This is one of the oldest cathedrals in the Americas. It was almost completed, when it was damaged by cannon fire during Sir Francis Drake's attack on the city; it was then reconstructed between 1598 and 1612. Be sure to see the coral pillars in the nave and the sculpted wood altarpiece with intricate polychrome decoration.
