The Michelin Guide's review
The Dardanelles Strait separates Asia, on the Çanakkale side, and Europe, on the Gelibolu side, from where the view encompasses a vast panorama. This narrow stretch of water between the Aegean Sea and the Sea of Marmara is also an incredibly busy shipping lane. The landscape of hills and arid plains lining the strait is dotted with copses and olive groves. In Antiquity, its shores were occupied by the Greeks, whose history is highlighted in the archaeological museum. During the First World War, the Dardenelles Strait was the theatre for a bloody conflict which is commemorated in a moving military museum. Both museums are located in Çanakkale.
