Le Niolo

 Well worth the diversions
Natural site
  The Michelin Guide's review
The Niolo unfolds in the upper Golo valley, Corsica's longest river. Its rugged, authentic terrain was isolated for a long time, hence its thriving traditions. The region is overlooked by Monte Cinto (2,706m), the highest point on the island. The area is ideal for walking, with the Lac de Nino, which is carpeted with tender green grass (pozzines: little peaty waterholes), Valdu-Niellu Forest and its superb laricio pines, as well as dry-stone sheepfolds, erected in grandiose sites.
