The Michelin Guide's review
The Basilica della Vergine di Bonaria, patron saint of seafarers, is one of Cagliari's symbolic spots. At the top of a staircase, the former sanctuary (1324-1326, reworked in the 16C) houses an octagonal apse chapel with a fan vault and the wooden statue of Our Lady of Bonaria presiding over the high altar. The new basilica, which has a Latin cross layout and lines typical of the Piedmontese Baroque style, was added alongside the sanctuary in the 18C.
