Built in 1268, this massive fortress sits behind extensive water defences which protected it from attack. The castle underwent restoration in the 19C and 20C and has a long barbican (a fortified defensive structure), an outer ward with bastions, an inner ward with towers, large guardrooms and a Great Hall.
