The Michelin Guide's review
Laid out on a regular urban plan, the medieval city of Caernarfon lies within a surrounding wall; it is located on the edge of the strait skirted by the Promenade as far as the marina. The 734m-long walls, eight towers and two gateways were built at the same time as the castle. Only a few old houses remain, concentrated in Northgate Street - Black Boy Inn (1522) - and in the pleasant little Hole in the Wall Street, where there is a host of restaurants.
