The Michelin Guide's review
The Dukes of Bavaria transformed Burghausen into the largest castle in Germany. Its defensive system, which was strengthened at the end of the 15C in the face of the threat of invasion by the Turks, extends for almost 1 100m. The duke's former apartments are adorned with period furniture from the 15C-17C and an interesting collection of paintings from the Bavarian school. The duchess' apartments are home to the municipal museum, which retraces the history of the town. Visitors can also enjoy the superb view of the town from the observation platform.
