The Michelin Guide's review
Founded in 1802 by Count Ferenc Széchenyi, this museum occupies a neo-Classical palace fronted by a portico with Corinthian columns. Although the magnificent crown jewels are now exhibited in the Parliament, the museum still houses the purple silk coronation mantle of Byzantium. It also gives a thorough introduction to Hungary's history, from the arrival of the Magyar tribes to the post-Communist period.
