The Michelin Guide's review
In the early 1950s, a team of archaeologists from the National Geographic Society and the Smithsonian Institution excavated human remains and tools in Russell Cave dating back at least 9 000 years. Stone and bone tools, pottery, shell jewelry and other items testify to human settlements in the south-east of the United States since the Paleolithic and Neolithic eras. Visitors can follow a short path into the cave's upper mouth.
