The Michelin Guide's review
Built in 1869, the small steam train of the Mount Washington Cog Railway is almost as famous as the mount itself. The 3.5mi cog track, an outstanding technological achievement for its day, still offers passengers a thrilling ride to the summit, especially when it ascends Jacob's Ladder, the steepest portion (37% grade). A small museum devoted to the cog railway has been opened at the Base Station.
