The Michelin Guide's review
To really appreciate Bratislava, visit the former market square. In its centre is a Renaissance fountain built by King Maximilian II in 1572. The most impressive building remains the former town hall with its large tower. The square is the meeting point for the city's inhabitants, who come here in summer in a bid to cool down. In winter, it hosts the Christmas market, where it is pleasant to stroll and breathe in the aromas of mulled wine and medovník (akin to gingerbread).
