The Michelin Guide's review
In the heart of the Bresse region, the royal monastery of Brou is a staggering masterpiece that is well worth a visit for its tombs, pews, stained-glass and rood screen. In the 16C, Margaret of Austria, grand-daughter of Charles the Bold and aunt to the future Charles V, had this superlative monastery built in loving memory of her husband Philip of Savoie, and to the glory of the dynasty of which she remained the sole representative. It is a magnificent example of lavish Flamboyant Gothic art and inventions from Renaissance Italy.
