Bormio is one of the gateways to the Stelvio national park, the largest protected area in the Alps (130 700ha). The park is home to 102 glaciers, hundreds of peaks, some 50 glacial lakes, over 40 000ha of forests, abundant wildlife (stags, ibex, roe deer, chamois, eagles, partridges and marmots), and 1 500km of footpaths which allow visitors to explore its natural attractions.
