The Michelin Guide's review
This splendid turreted and gabled brick mansion was built between 1619 and 1625 by Robert Lyminge, the architect of Hatfield House; it is one of the most intact of the great Jacobean houses. The present parterre and gardens date from the late 19C but the grounds were probably originally laid out by Humphry Repton. At the far end of the park is an extraordinary pyramidal mausoleum, 12 m high.
