Well worth the diversions
Civil and military monument
The Michelin Guide's review
The castle, in ruins, is home to a keep dating from 1446, several halls and a series of underground dungeons. Blarney Stone at the top of the building reputedly gives the gift of the gab to those who kiss it. Easier said than done, given the ungainly position required to do so... The grounds are home to Blarney House (closed to the public), a rambling Scots Baronial manor dating from the 19C. The Rock Close gardens are set on an old druid site near the river.
