The Michelin Guide's review
Sited on Red Mountain, a hill to the south of the city, this 10-acre park is a popular outdoor destination for Birmingham's inhabitants and the venue of many events. It is where the mascot of the "Magic City", Birmingham's nickname, finally found a home in 1936 after a somewhat tumultuous early start: Vulcan, the Roman god of fire and volcanoes and patron of ironworkers. A viewing platform commands a splendid vista of the city, particularly at sunset.
