The Michelin Guide's review
As part of your visit, explore the ramparts punctuated by towers that reinforce the island's natural defences. Enter the town through the north gate - the main entrance gateway and the best preserved. Further on, tombstones and urns are all that remain of an ancient necropolis. The tophet, a sacred area reserved for human sacrifices, is still visible, as is the cothon, an artificial basin linked to the sea by a canal, which was once a sacred pool belonging to a temple dedicated to Baal.
