The Michelin Guide's review
Overlooking the Dordogne Valley at an altitude of 150m, Beynac-et-Cazenac castle is outstanding. This old fortress was much fought over, especially during the Hundred Years War. An architectural masterpiece, the castle seems to have grown out of the cliff and will no doubt prove to be one of the most authentic surprises of your trip to Périgord. The narrow streets and massive architecture conjure up pictures of life in the Middle Ages and the walk around the battlements offers fine views.
