The Michelin Guide's review
Situated in the centre of the lower town, this huge square is the focal point of the modern town which was designed by Marcello Piacentini, Giovanni Muzio and Luigi Angelini between 1920 and 1930. It is extended by the Sentierone where locals like to take a stroll and flanked by the Donizetti theatre (which honours the memory of the great local composer and author of Lucia di Lamermoor), and San Bartolomeo church, which is home to the Martinengo altarpiece by Lorenzo Lotto.
