The Michelin Guide's review
This pottery became famous for its richly decorated parian ware (a type of bisque porcelain imitating white Paros marble). It was founded in 1857 by John Caldwell Bloomfield, an enlightened amateur mineralogist, who noticed that the region contained all the elements required for manufacturing porcelain: kaolin, silex, clay, peat and hydraulic power. The film - screened free of charge - will give you an idea of the artisans' fascinating skills. Superb pieces are displayed in the small museum.
