The funerary art of this region is famous across the world, but the Mahafaly region itself remains largely unknown. This region of zebus, tombs and totems, with its many clans and sapphire-rich geology is lacking water, yet has a flora which is unique in the world. You'll need to head off the beaten track to get a real feel for the region.
