The ramparts form an almost uninterrupted 2km-long covered walkway around the old town (although private sections mean you can't do a complete circuit). They are dotted with eight different forms of bastions and a few towers, including the Bastion Notre Dame, Square des Lions and the Rempart des Dames - a promenade with a double line of plane trees.
